McDonald’s has officially made every vegan’s dream come true officially launching their first ever vegan-friendly burger.
Last year the fast food chain trialled its first ever vegan burger, appropriately named the McVegan, at a Maccies in Tampere, Finland, from October until the end of November.
At the time McDonald’s said it would assess sales and the future of the McVegan at the end of the trial. Now the burger is officially being rolled out across restaurants in both Finland and Sweden it looks like the trial was a success.
The delicious looking burger is made up of a soy-based patty in the usual bun complete with all the standard McDonald’s fillings – tomato, salad and pickles.
A special vegan McFeast sauce has even been created to add that extra touch.
As reported by Veggie Athletic, Marketing Director of McDonald’s in Finland, Christoffer Rönnblad, said he was happy with the response to the new dish during its trial period saying it has been ‘mostly positive’:
We are following the reaction with interest and we are happy to receive feedback. That’s the purpose of the trial.
The vegan hamburger required extensive in-house product development. The [vegan] hamburger steak is soy-based.
We were really passionate about finding a steak that tastes really good.
And it seems that the vegans agree!

Honestly, it’s been years since I last ate a burger at McDonald’s so I’ve forgotten how the normal ones taste like but considering the price, the quality of this vegan version is actually decent!
So I’m hopeful that this will stay on the menu for those who visit more often that I do and want an animal – and environment – friendly choice.

Sadly if you want a taste of the action you will need to visit either Sweden or Finland for now.
However, since veganism is ever growing we don’t think it will be long until the McVegan makes its entrance in restaurants elsewhere including the UK.
Research has shown that vegans actually live longer than meat-eaters so it is no surprise that people are turning to these healthier lifestyle choice.
The study, published in the JAMA Internal Medicine Journal, was carried out by scientists at the Massachusetts General Hospital.
They discovered that every three per cent increase in calories from plant protein was found to reduce risk of death by 10 per cent and the figure rises to 12 per cent for risk of dying from heart disease.
By increasing the share of animal protein in a person’s diet by 10 per cent, it led to a two per cent higher risk of death from all causes – increasing to an eight per cent higher chance of dying from heart disease.
