The first leg of tonight’s EFL Cup semi-final at Stamford Bridge sees the Gunners just three games away from silverware.

And it looks their best chance of winning any after their FA Cup shock at the hands of Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Arsene Wenger has won the FA Cup seven times but, despite it so often being his Gunners salvation, he fielded a weakened side and tumbled out to Championship opponents.

Sat in sixth and 23 points back from leaders Manchester City, the Premier League is again out of reach.

And with another eight games needed to even reach the Europa League final, most Gunners fans were hoping that Sanchez would have played against their London rivals.

But Wenger again appears to have treated the EFL Cup with a lack of respect – perhaps setting his sights on nothing but a top-four finish.

Sanchez is set to make a move to Manchester City and is wanted by Pep Guardiola this month, despite being free to walk away at the end of the season.

Wenger’s justification for not picking Sanchez?

He told SkySports: “You cannot explain every single decision, that is the decision of the day.
“He’s completely focused, has given a lot recently and is ready to come on and play his part in the game.”

However, fans were still left frustrated at the side named by Wenger – particularly with the inclusion of partying star Alex Iwobi – and reckon it is a sure sign that Sanchez is off…
