Former Big Brother contestant Rebekah Shelton has died unexpectedly, aged 32.

According to a post on her verified Twitter account, the transgender reality TV star, formerly known as Rodrigo Lopes, passed away on the evening of Wednesday 10 January.

Tributes have since been posted online for the Brazilian TV personality, who was described as ‘one of the most loveable BB contestants’, and had been living in Dubai.

A statement posted from six hours ago her social media read:

We’re sorry to inform everyone of the sad news that our wonderful and lovely Rebekah died unexpectedly on Wednesday night.

We ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this time.

Fans were quick to send supportive messages to her family:

One devastated fan, @Official_Ellis, wrote:

OMG… Such sad News…. what a way to leave the world being who you truly are finally having being hidden in the wrong body!! Such a role model to many and great laughs on Big Brother. RIP Rebekah [sic]

Last year, Rebekah admitted she was struggling to cope, after appearing on Judge Rinder claiming compensation for a botched boob job, adding she felt suicidal because she felt so isolated.

She told OK! Magazine:

At one point before my surgery I had to leave home, and for six months of my life I turned to prostitution. So many times I wanted to kill myself because I had no one to talk to.

It was a big step to go full time as a woman. It’s different when you are having fun with your friends in the clubs, to changing your whole life and facing the rejection or acceptance of the world.

No one wants to choose the hardest path to go through, it’s hard, it’s rough.

The cause of death remains unconfirmed.
